The NANOCON0 016 Conference – with theme 'Nanotechnology - Applications Advances and Innovations'
The objective of the NANOCON 016 Conference is to give a common platform to Academicians, R & D Executives, Scientists, Industrialists, from the field of nanotechnology, to interact, exchange knowledge, deliberate upon and disseminate innovative ideas. As mentioned in the theme, the need of the hour is the provision of such a platform. In this context, it is befitting that Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune, India, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, U.S.A, Tuskegee University, Alabama, U.S.A, The University of Tokushima, Japan and C-MET, Pune, in collaboration with national premier Institutions, R & D organizations and Industries, are organizing, timely, an International Conference on the said topic. This conference would assist in providing a clear understanding of the implementation plans focusing on the development of future nanotechnology programs.
Although, we have known nanomaterials for ages (for example: DNA/RNA, nanoparticles in Ayurvedic medicines like Bhasma etc); the recent understanding at the 'nanometer' level has created a new scientific knowledge. Nanomaterials have altogether different properties than their atomic / molecular counterparts and corresponding bulk material. Science of 'Nano' has really changed many of our notions. For example, it was believed that every (semiconducting) material has characteristic and fixed optical band gap. Now, it is a common knowledge that 'the optical band gap of materials depends on their particle size' and one can easily tune the optical band gap by manipulating the particle size of the material (s). Materials with exotic properties could easily be made just by tuning the particle size.
In the last two decades, nanoforms (Quantum dots, Nanoparticles, Nanowires, Nanotubes etc) of almost all materials and elements (except radioactive materials) from the Periodic Table have been made and studied. Today, it is next to impossible to find a material which is not yet studied in its 'Nano' form.
